Sound Journeys

Many creation stories, both ancient and modern, begin in sound. Everything, even that which appears still, moves at a particular vibration or sound wave. To be “at ease” is to be in harmony, or resonant with, one’s Self or soul. “Dis-ease” occurs when we are not in alignment with our vibration. Sound journeys allow participants to recalibrate on multiple planes – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual – so that they are able to re-enter a resonant relationship with themselves and the greater communities of which they are a part.

Three Distinct Experiences

Whether you are seeking an individual or a communal sound journey, an indoor or an outdoor experience, Prairie Pathways offers a service that is right for you.

  • Vibrational sound therapy (VST) consists of the application of therapeutic singing bowls on a person’s body. These bowls are gently struck while the person lies on a massage table. S/he feels the sound waves move throughout the body and is taken to a deep place of relaxation. It is from this space of ease that the body-soul remembers its natural frequency and moves toward self-healing. VST sessions last from half an hour to one hour.

  • Sound baths are intuitive journeys into the inner wildscape through the playing of drums, rattles, seed shakers, rain sticks, gongs, chimes and other instruments. Participants are invited to find a comfortable position lying down or seated while they attune to the intuitive journey. Sound baths may be accompanied by a guided “inner world journey” (a shamanic practice) or a meditation (a yogic practice), depending on the session and/or the desire of the participant(s). Sound baths provide the space to release the mind’s chatter (vritti) and rewild our innate connection to sound/Source. Sound baths session lengths vary.

  • Drum circles are communal experiences where participants drum together to create an atmosphere of harmony, belonging and remembrance. Drum circles may be accompanied by spoken word, story sharing and singing, depending on the session and/or the desire of the participant(s). Other instruments may also be played, as each person is encouraged to express their soul urge energetically during the circle. Drum circles guide us in remembering that we are interdependent beings who have deep roots in communal gathering, and who each bring our own note (“vibration”) to the shared song of life. Drum circles last from 1 to 2 hours.

What They’re Saying,

“Kristy’s sound therapy sessions are extraordinary healing on many levels. Being guided into a deep state of relaxation through sound, Kristy skillfully creates a safe and sacred space for her clients.

The vibrational sound waves provide a stable frequency that my brainwaves can attune to and enhances my own inner healing. I felt held with compassion during the sessions where emotional and physical pain could be released with ease.

I feel that sound therapy works on a cellular level, too, restoring health and vitality. I notice how my body’s cellular memory can feel the vibrations even now as I write this review. I think this is what sets sound therapy apart from other healing modalities. I am grateful for Kristy’s expertise as a sound therapist and I highly recommend her sessions!”

“As a staff member of NAMI DuPage, I deeply appreciate Kristy's willingness to volunteer her time and experience leading yoga and meditation sessions for people with mental health conditions and their family members. I have personally experienced the physical and emotional balancing that happens after my practice with Kristy.

I had heard of sound therapy in the past but first experienced it with Kristy when she brought her therapy bowls to a meditation session. As I laid with my eyes closed, I felt the sound and vibration move through my mind and body.  What a powerful and restful experience!

I look forward to experiencing Kristy's meditation technique each time I practice with her. I welcome whatever the experience brings each session.”
